Jakarta, Kartunet.com – Digital accessibility is no longer just a technology trend; it is an urgent human right that must be fulfilled. Amidst rapid digital transformation, many people with disabilities still encounter "digital walls" when accessing public services, education, and even e-commerce.
To address this challenge, Dimaster Institute has officially launched its latest initiative: Accessible Web Indonesia.
This platform, accessible via accessible.web.id, serves as Indonesia's first free toolkit center, specifically dedicated to helping web developers and the general public understand and implement accessibility standards.
A Grassroots Initiative
This platform was developed directly by Dimas Prasetyo Muharam. Dimas is certainly no stranger to the disability community in Indonesia. In addition to founding Dimaster Institute, Dimas is also known as the Founder of Kartunet (Karya Tunanetra) and the initiator of the Inclusive Civil Servant Forum.
"As a visually impaired person working in the technology world, I often find websites that look visually appealing but are 'empty' when accessed using a screen reader. Accessible Web Indonesia was born to bridge this technical gap," said Dimas.
Key Features: From Technical Audits to Empathy Education
This website is designed not only for programmers but also as an educational tool for the general public. Here are some flagship features you can try for free:
- Accessibility Checker: An automated audit tool based on Google Lighthouse. Simply enter your website's URL, and the system will provide a score and technical improvement recommendations.
- Dyslexia Simulator: A unique simulation feature that invites users to "experience" reading as someone with dyslexia, where letters appear to dance and shift. A highly effective tool for building empathy.
- Quran Braille Converter: Addresses public curiosity about the literacy of visually impaired Muslims. This tool converts Arabic Hijaiyah letters into Braille patterns, while also educating users about the unique fact that Arabic Braille is read from left to right.
- Color Contrast & TTS Simulator: Ensures color designs are safe for individuals with Low Vision and content scripts are comfortable to listen to via Text-to-Speech technology.
Strategic Collaboration: Nearly Two Decades of Experience
The launch of these tools is an initial step (screening). For comprehensive implementation, Dimaster Institute fully synergizes with Kartunet.
Established in 2006, Kartunet has nearly two decades of experience in digital advocacy. The main advantage of Kartunet's accessibility audit services lies in community involvement.
"Our audits are not just a machine checklist. We involve a community of active, tech-savvy visually impaired users who are accustomed to browsing the internet. This provides a Real User Experience perspective that no automated tool can capture," added Dimas.
Professional services offered include:
- In-depth audits of Websites and Mobile Applications (Android/iOS).
- Direct User Testing by visually impaired users.
- Disability Awareness training for company management and employees.
Realizing a Disability-Friendly Internet
The presence of Accessible Web Indonesia is expected to be a catalyst for government agencies and the private sector to begin improving their digital assets in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 8 of 2016.
