Jakarta – Samsung has introduced a new innovation in its latest product: three new features specifically designed for the Samsung Galaxy Core Advance handset. These three features aim to help the visually impaired access their surroundings, enabling them to be more independent with the aid of technology. Here are the three latest accessible features from the Samsung Galaxy Core Advance:

  • Ultrasonic Cover. The Ultrasonic Cover is a case that can detect the presence of objects in front of the user using sound waves. The Ultrasonic Cover can detect objects from a distance of two meters; upon approaching an object, the cover will emit a sound or vibrate. This is highly beneficial for the visually impaired to navigate their surroundings and move more independently.
  • Optical Scan Stand. The Optical Scan Stand is a scanner that can scan text-based objects (books, papers, etc.) similar to OCR. When the user activates the Optical Scan Stand application on the Galaxy Core Advance, the app will automatically read the text aloud. Yup, there's no longer a need to find a sighted person or turn on a laptop and scanner to read text-based objects; a gadget in hand is all it takes.
  • Voice Label. Voice Label allows visually impaired users to identify objects and tag them with voice labels. This can help when the gadget encounters the same object again; it will instantly recognize it and explain it to the user.

In addition to the three features above, the Galaxy Core Advance appears to be specifically designed for the visually impaired, as its home, menu, and settings buttons are physical buttons, unlike other Galaxy variants where only the home button is physical. Unfortunately, these features are currently only available on the Samsung Galaxy Core Advance, which still has a relatively high price, around three million. This represents a new innovation, and Samsung is beginning to realize that, in addition to providing assistance, the disability community is also a potential market. Not only is their number significant, but this community also heavily relies on technology to overcome physical barriers. *MIT*
