Signature Kartunet Narratives
At Kartunet, writing is not just a sequence of words, but an instrument for social change. We apply high standards for Diction (word choices) and Accessibility to ensure the message of inclusion is delivered without bias and can be enjoyed by everyone, including screen reader users.
Inclusive Diction Standards
We are highly selective in our terminology. Ensure your writing follows these rules:
- Avoid Derogatory Terms (e.g., "Cacat"): Use the term Disability or Difabel (Different Abled People). We view disability as human diversity, not physical defect.
- Avoid the Word "Normal": Do not use the word "normal" to refer to non-disabled people. Use Non-Disabled or General Public. Using "normal" implicitly labels disability as "abnormal".
- Person-First Language: Focus on the person, not the barrier. For example, use "A person with a physical disability" instead of "the crippled".
Content Accessibility Standards
As advocates for digital accessibility, your manuscript must follow these technical rules:
1. Image Description (Alt-Text)
Every image included in your article must be accompanied by a clear text description.
Example: "Photo of a blind young man operating a laptop using a Braille Display in a library."
2. Logical Heading Structure
Use sub-headings to break down long points. This helps screen reader users navigate the main points of your writing without having to read from the beginning.
3. Descriptive Links
Avoid using links with the text "Click here". Use text that describes the destination of the link, for example: "Download the 2026 Digital Accessibility Research Report".
