Tangerang, Kartunet - For the visually impaired, shortcuts or hotkeys are extremely beneficial when working with computers. Various commands typically performed with mouse clicks can be replaced by combinations of several keys on the keyboard. Similarly, in the latest Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft provides several new and very useful shortcuts. First, the Windows + A key combination. This shortcut is useful for opening the Action Center. The Action Center is a Windows feature that displays notifications from various applications within Windows. Thus, new email notifications, virus scanning activities, or update notifications can be directly accessed and executed through the Action Center. Next is Windows + S. This shortcut directly takes the user to the search box in the Start menu. This search box is very useful because you no longer need to browse icon by icon in the Start menu to open an application. Simply type a part of the application's keyword, and it will appear in full. For example, if you want to open Microsoft Word 2016, just type "word", and the Start menu will display Word 2016, depending on the applications frequently opened on your computer. Then there's Windows + Q. This key combination activates the virtual assistant feature in Windows 10, namely Cortana. Cortana is similar to the Siri feature found in Apple products. You can give voice commands to do many things with Windows. For example, searching for information or accessing applications. However, if the Cortana feature is not activated on your computer, then the search box will open, similar to the Windows + S shortcut. There's also the Windows + G shortcut. This is useful for those who frequently play games and want to record screen activity. However, this feature will only activate if you are using a computer/laptop with good or above-average graphics capabilities. Next is the Windows + I key. This was also available in Windows 8.1, but in Windows 10, this shortcut opens the Settings app. The Settings app is similar to the Control Panel feature, but in Windows 10, it displays more functions than before. Another new feature in Windows 10 is Virtual Desktop. There's the Windows + Ctrl + D shortcut to create a new virtual desktop. This virtual desktop allows you to have more than one desktop display, complete with icons. So you can create several virtual desktops for various needs, such as work, entertainment, studies, etc. To close the active virtual desktop, press Windows + Ctrl + F4. Don't forget the simple Windows + Tab shortcut. By pressing this two-key combination, you can navigate between active virtual desktops. Or, if you're not using virtual desktops, you can switch between active applications on the taskbar. Additionally, to switch between Virtual Desktops, you can also press Windows + Ctrl + right/left arrow. In addition to these new Windows 10 shortcuts, there are also several other useful shortcuts. These include Ctrl + Shift + N to create a new folder, Windows + R to open Run, Windows + B to go directly to the system tray, Windows + X for the power menu (shut down and restart computer), and Windows + numbers 1 through 9 to access applications pinned to the taskbar. These are some important and very helpful shortcuts for visually impaired users working with Windows 10. Perhaps you know other shortcuts not mentioned in this article? Feel free to share them in the comments section. (DPM)
