Jakarta, Kartunet.com - It's no surprise that your child's wasteful habits often annoy and anger you. A lack of discipline sometimes causes your little one to disregard a frugal lifestyle. Sometimes, being spoiled by parents or grandparents who always grant every wish can lead to wasteful behavior. It's time to train your child to be frugal when shopping. You are in control.

This is especially true if your child is entering adolescence, with their tendency to sometimes imitate the fashion styles of their favorite artists. It's no wonder that a million desires to buy often expensive clothes can frequently trouble you. Here are some tricks to teach them to become smart shoppers.

1. Set a budget. Talk openly and frankly with your child about their monthly budget. Emphasize that earning money nowadays is not easy. They must be responsible for their finances. Get them used to buying necessary items with their leftover savings after setting aside money for daily needs. Saving up to buy something they desire will train them to manage a non-wasteful lifestyle.

2. Teach them to compare prices of items from one store to another so they can wisely manage their spending when visiting a wholesale market. If you don't have much time, you can teach them through online shops on the internet.

3. Teach them about the quality of an item. It is better and much more economical to buy a branded and quality item than to buy a cheap item that breaks quickly. They will get used to managing their spending patterns regarding what should be spent on and what doesn't need to be a priority when purchasing an item.

4. Teach them about shopping using all types of payment transactions, whether cash, credit card, or debit card. The point to emphasize to them is that buying with cash is much more economical than using a credit card. Inform them about their obligation to pay off purchase debts with interest if using a credit card, and that future burdens will certainly be more difficult if the interest from that credit card continues to swell. Create a debit card for them according to their monthly budget so they can manage their own spending.

5. Teach them to shop for items according to their needs, not spontaneously, so they don't become an impulsive buyer or a sudden buyer based solely on their feelings. Get them used to listing all the necessities they will buy and sticking to that list. Items outside that list can only be purchased from their saving efforts.

Now, your child will understand as time goes on and grow into an individual who doesn't like to waste money on items they don't truly need. (Hendro)
