Jakarta, Kartunet – PT Indosat Mega Media (IM2), a leading company in internet network and infrastructure provision, is extending its commitment to the disability community. Through a collaboration with Kartunet (Karya Tunanetra – 'Works of the Blind'), IM2 is facilitating access to information on disability issues via the citizen media platform www.kartunet.com.
The support provided by IM2 to Kartunet includes custom-spaced hosting and unlimited bandwidth, with servers located in Indonesia. This initial one-year collaboration ensures easier and smoother access to www.kartunet.com for users, the majority of whom are located within the country. Kartunet's website has been active since January 19, 2006. For over eight years, we have been committed to offering society a new perspective on persons with disabilities by providing information and inspiration.
Furthermore, Kartunet serves as an online platform for persons with disabilities to create and express themselves, as well as for the general public concerned with these issues. IM2 is open to exploring other potential collaborations with Kartunet in the future to further support the disability community. Currently, the most relevant and needed IM2 product for Kartunet is local server hosting services with robust access speeds.
This ease of access is crucial, considering many Kartunet community members reside in areas with less-than-optimal internet connection speeds. Additionally, the opportunity for reseller hosting from IM2 could provide a distinct advantage for the web development startup business that Kartunet is currently developing. With stable hosting servers from IM2, this will add significant value to the digital ventures we offer.
Kartunet hopes this collaboration will be long-term, while also opening up other opportunities in the digital telecommunications sector. Because we believe that the advancement of internet network infrastructure in Indonesia will positively impact persons with disabilities. Many barriers, particularly in mobility and information access, can be overcome with information and communication technology (ICT).
