Kartuneters, have you ever explored AI music? What AI music tools have you used for your experiments? Or are you perhaps confused about which AI music is best for tinkering? In this post, I'm sharing the AI music tools I've explored.
A little spoiler: I've been exploring since late 2023 until early 2025, and I've already started selecting the AI music tools I want to deep dive into. Let's discuss it thoroughly!

Suno AI

Late December 2023 marked the starting point of my AI exploration. It began with hearing about a friend's experiments via Discord, leading up to Suno AI's official web launch. Specifically, just before the 2023 Christmas and New Year holidays, Suno AI went viral worldwide.

The first song I experimented with was 'Podcast Party,' generated by Suno. At that time, Suno v2 Model didn't support Indonesian. The results didn't quite meet expectations, but then again, with generated content, there are always pros and cons.

I immediately dove into Models V3, V3.5, and V4. June 2024 was a period of intense song generation, and the most viral and popular one was 'Pertaruhan Dusta' (Betrayal of Lies). This song depicts the destruction of one's mind, body, and finances due to the trap of online loans (pinjol) and online gambling (judol). Isn't that tragic, Kartuneters?

During my exploration of these three models, there was one absurd song. Its lyrics were just 'ting, tang, tung,' with an EDM genre. It was great for dancing, and the lyrics were hilarious. I intentionally made it quirky to make it fun.

The most challenging exploration came in August 2024. I started trying to write my own lyrics without AI assistance, following Suno's song structure, which uses metatags. I studied all the relevant metatags, then created the song. It was complicated, indeed. It took several hours of back-and-forth revisions to change lines in the lyrics, then fine-tuning them in Suno AI.

The results? Some were completely ruined due to the wrong music style, leading to repeated generations until my credits almost ran out. Among the successful ones were 'Efek Nyai Sapen' (Nyai Sapen's Effect) with two versions, and 'Indonesia, Awas Megathrust!' (Indonesia, Beware of Megathrust!).

As for V4 itself, testing from December 2024 to early 2025 was limited to 10 songs in 5 generations, meaning 2 songs per generation. The V4 experiment used for testing was the cover feature, with the song 'Podcast Party' becoming the material for Suno V4 mastering. The result was epic! I spent the rest of my time testing that V4 model.

In conclusion, V4 is for pro and premier subscribers. If you want to subscribe, a Stripe account is required for checkout – remember, not PayPal!

Riffusion, AKA Suno Killer

For the second one, it's Riffusion. At first glance, it indeed resembles Suno version 4, and its features are on par with Suno Pro or Premier. I only started exploring it in early 2025, specifically late February, and it also has a Discord server.

Note:

Riffusion is currently in public beta. Kartuneters can try Riffusion for free and tinker with it on its official website.

Its menu is quite challenging; you need to be sharp when pressing or clicking the intended buttons, for example, distinguishing between 'prompt' or 'custom,' and 'upload audio.' Regarding features, I won't spill all the details. What Riffusion users are most interested in are the stems, which consist of vocals, drums, guitars, and other instruments.

I've only created a few songs so far, including, first, an extended version of a nasyid song, and second, a remix and a simple Indonesian prompt. As for the lyrics, it can't yet rival Suno; in other words, its AI isn't quite as effective for lyrics yet. Alternatively, Kartuneters can use ChatGPT Custom/paid, paid Gemini, Microsoft Copilot Pro, or experiment with pre-written lyric concepts.

Do you Kartuneters want to try Riffusion too? Here are 2 Riffusion links below, or you can search for @masprimkotegede in the search bar.

Conclusion

That's all for today's post. Before concluding, use AI music responsibly. One more thing: always keep exploring the developments in AI, especially AI music, learn how to use it, and understand the existing Terms of Service.
