We found this, the first Kartunet profile created with some adjustments in 2011. Hopefully, it can better explain the origins and purpose of Kartunet's establishment.
Kartunet.com was born from our awareness to create a new global perspective on the visually impaired. This idea emerged from our observation that visually impaired individuals possess untapped talents. Therefore, we were driven to establish a website that could serve as a platform for publishing their works. Although this site aims to showcase the potential of visually impaired individuals, we welcome participation from visitors outside the disability community. Kartunet itself is a portmanteau of two Indonesian words: “karya” (works/creations) and “tunanetra” (visually impaired). This terminology forms the foundational principle of the website's creation. The initiators of this site are exclusively visually impaired individuals. With all their potential and resources, visually impaired individuals built this site. Over time, participation from non-disabled individuals has also been welcomed. Furthermore, we strive to position ourselves as a central hub for information and socialization regarding disability issues in the online world. When you seek information about disability, we are the place to find it. We aim to be a source of information and to portray the potential of people with disabilities, which is often misunderstood by society. Moving beyond mere assumptions and persistent stigmas in the general public. By looking directly at the source: how we interact and create with all the alternatives we can pursue. Ultimately, this accelerates the realization of an inclusive society. Why did we choose a website as our publication medium? Because in this era of globalization, the internet is the most popular medium among the public. This allows the works of visually impaired individuals to be read by site visitors. From all age groups, disabled or not, from various regions across Indonesia, and internationally. Why do we care about people with disabilities? Because we, as the site administrators, are visually impaired. Visually impaired in the broad sense, encompassing those who are totally blind and those with low vision. Dedicated to the visually impaired in particular, people with disabilities, and the wider community in general. So, this site is a creation by the visually impaired for all of society.? KARTUNET. Inspired by the statement above, we, as the administrators of Kartunet, decided to name this site Kartunet.com, which is an abbreviation of Karya Tunanetra (Works of the Visually Impaired). Although this site is named Karya Tunanetra, it is open to everyone. Not only for the visually impaired, but also for those who are not visually impaired or do not have disabilities. Officially established on January 19, 2006, Kartunet.com was initiated by four visually impaired individuals:
- Irawan Mulyanto.
- Aris Yohanes Elean.
- M Ikhwan Toriqo.
- Dimas Prasetyo Muharam.
"Overcoming Limitations Without Limits" In its operations, Kartunet is not only focused on the visually impaired but also encompasses various disabilities. A limited physical condition does not mean limiting one's creativity. Instead, these limitations should be transformed into strengths that break through those very limitations without bounds. Goals and Hopes With KARTUNET.Com, we hope that the talents of visually impaired individuals can be channeled into positive endeavors. Furthermore, we also hope to create employment opportunities for our visually impaired friends. Such as becoming writers, music composers, radio broadcasters, or even computer instructors. However, these aspirations will not materialize without the help and input from you, the visitors of KARTUNET.COM. Therefore, we continuously welcome constructive criticism and suggestions for this site. Because, after all, KARTUNET.COM is a site for all of us. Jakarta, January 19, 2006
