Jakarta, Kartunet - Persons with disabilities still face barriers in obtaining employment. Support from various parties, including the government and private sector, is needed for them to secure their rights. The Depok City Government, through its Department of Manpower and Social Affairs (Disnakersos), in collaboration with the Cibinong Vocational Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Physical Disabilities (BBRVBD), organized a PBK (Work-Based Learning Training) or internship program for persons with disabilities.

Quoted from Depok.go.id, this program aims to enhance their independence.

“The program was launched to prepare persons with disabilities for entry into the workforce,” said Ani Rachmawati, Head of Social Affairs at Disnakersos. Ani explained that six companies are hosting these internships for persons with disabilities, including PT Energizer Indonesia, which accepted 2 individuals with computer skills; PT Toa Galva, which offered opportunities to 10 individuals in the electrical field and 2 with computer skills; PT Sanyo Jaya Company, which allowed 2 disabled workers with electrical capabilities; PT Xacti Indonesia, which welcomed 2 persons with disabilities proficient in computers; PT KL Mas, which took 10 individuals with sewing skills; and Amie Jaya Motor, which accepted 5 disabled individuals with motorcycle automotive expertise.

“Interns will receive meal and transportation allowances, while any additional benefits will depend on the policies of each respective company,” Ani added. It is hoped that these work training activities will prepare persons with disabilities in terms of skills, attitude, proficiency, and psychologically, so they are physically and mentally ready to enter the workforce.

It is hoped that in the future, companies will begin to trust persons with disabilities to work permanently, not just through internship programs. Because it is not physical shortcomings that companies need, but expertise that can be superior to that of general workers. In addition to gaining excellent human resources, companies will also contribute to alleviating the poverty experienced by the average person with disabilities.(DPM) source: Depok News
