Jakarta – Kartunet Community successfully made it into the top 35 prospective recipients of the Cipta Media Bersama (CMB) grant from a total of 821 proposals, through two categories simultaneously: jury selection and public choice (voting) with 2439 votes. Kartunet participated in this event to secure a grant of one billion rupiah, which will be used to implement its planned programs.

Voting and judging closed on September 21st, while the announcement was made at a press conference on September 23rd at The Akmani Hotel, Jl. KH. Wahid Hasyim 91, Central Jakarta. Notably, Kartunet was the only proposal submitter selected in both categories: qualitative selection by the initial selection team and online voting. Furthermore, Kartunet was also the only proposal addressing disability issues that passed this initial selection stage, among many other proposals covering similar topics.

Cipta Media Bersama is an open grant inviting individuals or organizations to present new and fresh ideas in media practices that can bring about improvements in Indonesian media. This open grant provides funding support of one million US dollars for the successful proposals. This competition is supported by four institutions: Ford Foundation, ICT Watch, the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI), and Wikimedia Indonesia.

In the submitted proposal, the idea initiated by Kartunet is “Kartunet.com: Online Media for Socialization and Development of Youth with Disabilities Communities”, and the planned activities by Kartunet include Kartunet Spirit Home, Kartunet Citizen Media, Kartunet on Campaign, Kartunet on Network, Kartunet on Radio, and Kartunet Groups. In the jury selection, Kartunet was nominated as a prospective grant recipient through the topic of 'breaking boundaries – media diversity', while in voting, Kartunet ranked fourth with 2439 votes.

The jury for this initial selection stage consisted of Adyani Hapsari Widyowati, Donny B.U., Heidi Arbuckle, Irfan Toni Herlambang, Margiyono, Siska Doviana, and Yan Aryanto. Following this announcement, Kartunet's proposal entered a consultation and refinement stage for its ideas and budget with the initial selection team until October 12th. Subsequently, the final decision on the grant proposal will be made by the permanent jury team, comprising Anggara (legal practitioner), Johar Alam Rangkuti (Founder of Internet Data Center), Merlyna Lim (Researcher at Arizona State University), Nia Dinata (Film director and producer), Onno W Purbo (information technology expert), Wimar Witoelar (media figure), Shinta Dhanuwardhoyo (founder of bubu.com), Yanuar Nugroho (technology innovation researcher), and Yoris Sebastian (creative business expert).

The announcement of the final selection stage will be delivered by the committee at a press conference on November 4th. We extend our gratitude to the jury panel for selecting our submitted proposal to advance to the next stage. We also thank all Kartunet sympathizers and supporters who have backed our efforts by participating in voting for Kartunet, enabling us to be among the top five with the most votes.

Our selection in these two categories makes us even more grateful that our idea was accepted by the broad-minded selection jury team and simultaneously received significant support from the public who wish to see Indonesia become more inclusive towards people with disabilities. During the voting period, which closed on September 21st, Kartunet organized a small quiz to enliven the competition, featuring a 'most unique and inspiring comment' quiz in the comment section of Kartunet.com's voting page on the ciptamedia.org website.

Mobile credit prizes totaling Rp 100,000.00 were won by two Kartunet.com sympathizers: M. Irfan Priadi (Bandung) and Eka Prathiwie Taufanty (Brebes). Congratulations to the comment quiz winners, and thank you for your suggestions, feedback, and appreciation.
