The Quirky Kuntilanak In a small, remote village, renowned for its eerie atmosphere and mysticism, a legend had been passed down through generations. However, among all the scary tales circulating, the most famous was about *The Quirky Kuntilanak*. Yes, she wasn't just any ordinary kuntilanak. This kuntilanak was unlike the others; she… was a bit "somplak," or quirky. It all began when Joni, a motorcycle taxi driver known for his bravery (though he often missed out on payments), received a call in the middle of the night. "Jon, pick me up at Somplak House, now!" the voice on the phone sounded hurried. Joni frowned. Who on earth would want to go to that house in the middle of the night? "This must be a joke," he thought, but since night fares were higher, Joni quickly started his motorcycle and headed towards Somplak House. The house was famously haunted throughout the village. Many stories circulated about kuntilanak sightings there, especially on full moon nights. But Joni didn't just believe them. After all, what kuntilanak could outrun an online motorcycle taxi? Upon arriving in front of Somplak House, Joni began to feel something strange. The air around him felt colder than usual. He looked around, but there were no signs of the person who had called him. "This person must be joking, or maybe my friends are playing a prank on me," he muttered, lighting a cigarette. Suddenly, from inside the house, an odd laugh echoed. "Hehehe…" Joni froze. The sound wasn't like a normal laugh. It was a laugh… very similar to the sound of kuntilanaks in horror movies! But this wasn't a movie, and the sound was getting closer. From inside the house emerged a female figure in a long white dress, with hair flowing over part of her face, and… a head tilted to the side. "Hey, Joni! Took you long enough, didn't it?" the woman suddenly spoke, making Joni jump and almost drop his cigarette. "A kuntilanak?" he croaked. The woman laughed, louder than before, but this time it sounded a bit off-key. "Hehehe… oh my goodness, Jon. Who did you think I was? A TV soap opera star?" Joni gaped. "Wait, is this a kuntilanak or a stand-up comedian?" The kuntilanak approached with a rather strange gait, as if her legs weren't synchronized with her body. "I'm The Quirky Kuntilanak, bro. Not your average kuntilanak! My hair is messy, my head is tilted, and sometimes I trip over my own dress if I walk too fast. So don't be too scared, I'm more annoying than terrifying!" Joni was torn between fear and laughter. "Why... quirky?" The kuntilanak took a deep breath, then began to tell her story in the manner of an old friend confiding at a coffee stall. "So the story goes, I died in a rather unpleasant way, because my boyfriend cheated on me. Well, ever since then, I became a kuntilanak. But the problem is, when I became a ghost, there was a technical error. My head ended up tilted like this, my hair can't be neat, and my laugh? Well, you can hear it yourself, it's totally messed up, right?" Joni scratched his head. "So... you don't scare people?" The Quirky Kuntilanak looked at Joni with a pitiful gaze. "Jon, I've tried to scare people. But every time I appear with my tilted head and this kind of laugh, people just laugh instead of running in fear. Some even ask for selfies! I tried to scare a siomay vendor, and he gave me a free plate because he felt sorry for me. Can you imagine, Jon, being a kuntilanak who isn't taken seriously?" Joni, who was initially tense, now sat relaxed on his motorcycle, smoking again. "Oh my, your life is so pitiful... I mean, your *death* is so pitiful." The kuntilanak sat next to Joni, like an old friend chatting idly. "Yeah, that's how it is. I get annoyed sometimes too. What else can I do, it's fate. My head is quirky, and my life is quirky too." Joni nodded, continuing to listen to the kuntilanak's woes. The two of them eventually laughed together; strangely, Joni's laugh and The Quirky Kuntilanak's laugh became a perfect duet. A scary laugh transformed into a laugh of silliness. Since that night, Joni had a new friend: The Quirky Kuntilanak. They often met again, hanging out at Somplak House, chatting about life (and death), while occasionally brainstorming ways for The Quirky Kuntilanak to become a seriously feared ghost again. "Hey Jon, do you have any suggestions on how I can scare people again?" The Quirky Kuntilanak asked one night. Joni shrugged. "Try making some YouTube content, who knows, it might go viral." And so, in that small village, The Quirky Kuntilanak became known not just for her spookiness, but also for her humor. The villagers eventually laughed more often than they feared, every time they heard the giggling laugh that was once considered scary, but now became a sign of the beginning of a night full of silly stories at Somplak House.
