This started in December 2017. It was my first time working in South Jakarta, specifically at an online shop company. My first day was completely normal, without any disturbances. Then, in my second week, I was transferred with my colleague, Amel (a pseudonym), to the incoming warehouse section. My friend and I were assigned to the back area to sort out items that were ready for processing.
Coincidentally, this back area had many disorganized stacks of cardboard boxes. My colleague and I immediately started on the task given by our shift leader. After several hours there, our task was completed exactly at 5:45 PM. We quickly tidied up the area to make it look neat. As we were cleaning, chatting and laughing cheerfully, I accidentally looked towards my friend and saw a headless old man wearing all black standing behind her.
I instantly froze, blinked, and he vanished. My friend, seeing me staring blankly at her, looked puzzled. Finally, she approached me and asked. Amel: "De, why are you looking at me like that?" (with a confused expression) Me: "J-just now, I... I saw a headless old man behind you." (stuttering) Amel: "Aaah, you must have seen wrong. Don't think about it, let's finish up so we can rest quickly." (replying casually) Me: (Just nodded my head) We eventually continued tidying up the area, even though I honestly felt scared.
My friend, however, didn't seem to feel anything; she looked relaxed and normal. Not long after, I looked at my friend again, who was right behind me. Very carefully, I glanced back, and it turned out the old man had reappeared right behind my friend. I was at a loss for what to do until my male shift leader and his female colleague, whom I'll call Petir and Rindu (who was three months pregnant), arrived.
The two of them approached us, and I immediately ran towards them in a great hurry, my face pale. Then my shift leader asked. Petir: "Why are you running, De, seeing me? I know I'm handsome, lots of people chase me." (He asked casually, joking) Rindu: "Ugh, you're so confident, bro, with that potbelly too." (laughing) I remained silent and didn't answer anything until Amel came over to us and spoke.
Amel: "Bro, De just said she saw a headless old man behind me. She's really hallucinating, right?" Suddenly, the previously noisy atmosphere became silent, and everyone fell quiet. Then Rindu held my hand and asked me: Rindu: "De, did you really see a headless old man?" (with a curious expression) Me: (Just nodded my head) Rindu: "Wearing all black?" Me: (Nodded my head twice) Rindu: "Can you still see him now, De?
Where is he?" Me: (Just nodded and pointed towards the back) Instantly, Rindu grabbed my arm and ran as fast as she could, screaming "AAAAaaaaaaaaaa...", followed by my shift leader and my friend Amel. Once we reached the front where there were many people, Rindu immediately explained that many people had seen the headless old man before, not just me.
Many people saw us there because we were screaming at the top of our lungs. And finally, I was never assigned to the back area again. THE END
