Hello Kartuneters! The literacy rate in Indonesia still needs significant improvement. One of the main issues is the low interest in reading, especially serious reading. Yet, serious reading is key to enriching insights, strengthening critical thinking, and building a smarter society. So, what exactly is serious reading? Serious reading isn't just about recognizing words; it's about understanding, internalizing, and applying the content in daily life. Some key characteristics of serious readers include:

Characteristics of Serious Reading

  1. Deep Comprehension Reading with a thorough understanding of the text, being able to retell it, draw conclusions, and critically evaluate information. (Based on reading comprehension theory in educational psychology.)
  2. Emotional and Cognitive Engagement Readers show emotions towards the text (such as awe, anger, agreement, disagreement) and think more deeply about its meaning. (Based on engaged reading theory.)
  3. Reading Duration and Frequency Reading for sufficient periods, consistently, and rereading if necessary. (Referring to the concept of reading habits in literacy research.)
  4. Clear Reading Purpose Reading to learn, research, enrich oneself, not merely for entertainment. (Reading motivation theory indicates that reading purpose affects depth of understanding.)
  5. Application of Reading Outcomes What is read is used for thinking, speaking, writing, or taking concrete action. (Part of advanced literacy according to UNESCO.)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Can I read the same book as someone else? A: Absolutely! Everyone's reflection will certainly be different due to their individual perspectives and experiences. Q: Does the reading reflection have to be as formal as a review? A: Not at all! A reading reflection simply needs to recount your reading experience, the emotions you felt, the inspiration you gained, or any changes in perspective you experienced. Q: What if I only join mid-year? A: No problem! You can still participate and adjust your own target. Q: Where can I share and communicate with other members? A: All members are encouraged to communicate using the comment feature on the Kartunet website. Alternatively, Kartuneters can also join the Kartunet Club group.
