Jakarta, Kartunet - Purnamawati Muki Reksoprodjo, Chairperson of the Foundation for the Development of Children with Disabilities (YPAC), conveyed a simple aspiration to the new Jokowi-JK administration for the future of people with disabilities in Indonesia. During YPAC's 60th anniversary event in Jakarta (5-11), she expressed hope that people with disabilities would gain better employment opportunities and adequate access in public spaces.

"I'm not asking for much; just sidewalks and equal employment opportunities like everyone else. I agree with Mrs. Megawati that access in places like airplanes and shopping centers has been very concerning for people with disabilities," she said during a press conference at YPAC Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. Furthermore, Purnamawati also stated that the special needs students at YPAC have not yet received assistance from the government's social security programs, which come in the form of three 'magic cards': the Smart Indonesia Card (KIP), the Healthy Indonesia Card (KIS), and the Prosperous Family Card (KKS).

"They haven't received them yet, but it's in process. Earlier, Mrs. Khofifah whispered to me that it would be handled soon," she said. Previously, PDIP Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, who attended YPAC's 60th-anniversary event, stated that people with disabilities have not yet received proper treatment in public spaces.

"How important it is for them to have designated spaces on trains and airplanes; these are very practical matters," said Mega. Hopefully, these aspirations will be positively received by the new government led by President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla. This is because people with disabilities are also Indonesian citizens, and there is no reason to disregard their rights.
