Jakarta, Kartunet.com - The microblogging site, or Twitter, is one of the most popular social networks today, appealing to all demographics, including celebrities, entrepreneurs, politicians, university/school students, and even homemakers. This is due to Twitter's robust features, simple usage, lightweight server, and, of course, its vast user base. Following this success, numerous Twitter client applications have emerged, supporting various devices, both PC and mobile, such as: Ubersocial for (BlackBerry, Android, iPhone), TweetDeck, Seesmic, and so on. These clients make it easier for tweeps (as Twitter users are called) to interact, and are certainly more powerful. Unfortunately, some existing Twitter client applications do not support screen reader devices, meaning visually impaired individuals can only access standard Twitter (web/mobile).
However, a new breakthrough has emerged with the rapid growth of visually impaired Twitter users worldwide: the website http://twitmonger.shaned.net, which has created a project for a Twitter client application specifically for screen reader users. Uniquely, this application is audio-based only, without any visual interface, meaning it can only be used by screen reader users.
Although Twitmonger is currently still in its alpha version and is a continuation project of the discontinued Quitter project, Twitmonger is a powerful, very lightweight, and free Twitter client application. This is because Twitmonger focuses solely on Twitter, unlike the previous Quitter project, which covered several programs simultaneously. Unfortunately, this application currently only supports Windows-based operating systems, and is therefore not yet available on mobile devices, Mac, Linux, and others.
