To commemorate HDI (International Day of Persons with Disabilities), students of the Special Education (PLB) Department, Faculty of Education, State University of Jakarta (UNJ) will organize Special Education Celebrate This Awareness (SPECTA) Day 2015, an event aimed at the UNJ academic community, individuals with special needs, Special Needs Schools (SLB) throughout JABODETABEK, and the general public.
The event, themed Celebratory Hallway Of Our Special Education (CHOOSE), will run from December 1, 2015, starting with the Seminar on Understanding Disability (SEMEDI) titled “Advocacy for Disability and Accessibility” as the opening of SPECTA DAY 2015. December 3, 2015, will be the peak of SPECTA DAY 2015, featuring a parade of children with special needs around UNJ Campus A, competitions for children with special needs, art performances, and a SPECTA DAY 2015-style Bazaar.
December 5 will conclude the SPECTA DAY 2015 series of activities, packaged as a social service event titled “SWISE” (Sharing With Special Education). SPECTA DAY 2015 is one of the work programs of the Daily Management Board of the Student Executive Board of the Special Education Department, Faculty of Education, State University of Jakarta.
It aims to create an event for individuals with special needs across various types of specificities, including visual impairments, hearing impairments, intellectual disabilities, and autism, thereby providing a platform to showcase their talents in other areas. Through this event, we aim to highlight the strengths of individuals with special needs in motor and cognitive aspects, according to their respective specific abilities.
This activity serves as a form of social responsibility and awareness-raising for UNJ Special Education students regarding the world of special education, and also as a practical application of the theories learned in the Special Education Department's coursework at UNJ. The Seminar on Understanding Disability (SEMEDI) is the opening event of SPECTA DAY 2015, scheduled for December 1, 2015, at the Teacher Certification Building, 9th Floor, Campus A, State University of Jakarta.
This year, we are carrying the theme “Advocacy for Disability and Accessibility” and have invited Mr. Fikri Thalib, S.H., as the General Chairman of the Indonesian Disability Advocacy Committee (KAPCI). December 3, 2015, marks the peak of SPECTA DAY 2015. This event is packaged in various forms, starting with a parade around Campus A of the State University of Jakarta, which will be joined by all competition participants and the academic community of the Special Education Department, along with an opening ceremony featuring the release of 100 balloons.
Competitions are designed for students and individuals with special needs, including dancing and flag relay for individuals with intellectual disabilities at the elementary school level, coloring for individuals with autism at the elementary school level, a fashion show for individuals with hearing impairments at the junior high school level, singing for individuals with visual impairments at the junior high school level, and short stories, photography, and video contests with the theme “Colorful Children with Special Needs” for students, university students, and the general public.
The Art Performance is a highlight of the event and a form of high appreciation for individuals with special needs, with this year's theme being “Black and White World of Disability”. A Bazaar will be held from the opening until the end of the SPECTA DAY 2015 peak event. This SPECTA DAY 2015-style Bazaar will feature sponsors and Special Needs Schools showcasing and selling handicrafts created by children with disabilities, aiming to demonstrate that despite limitations, they are still capable of creating.
Sharing With Special Education (SWISE) is a social service activity that will conclude the SPECTA DAY 2015 series, taking place on December 5, 2015. The objective of this activity within the SPECTA DAY 2015 series is to enhance social sensitivity towards the world of disability. We are not only prioritizing euphoria in SPECTA DAY 2015 but also balancing it with social activities.
This activity will take place and is aimed at Special Needs Schools in Jakarta. The SWISE activity will involve donating essential items to SLB Mini Bakti, Rawamangun. In our opinion, the activities carried out by the Special Education students of the State University of Jakarta are highly positive, especially since we are aware of all forms of SPECTA DAY 2015 activities.
Our hope is that through this event, the image and perception of individuals with special needs and the Special Education Department of the State University of Jakarta will become better and more positive in the eyes of the UNJ campus community and the general public.

Events like this encourage students to implement theories learned in class in a real and relevant way in community life.
