Jakarta - This week seems to be a joyous one for two important figures in our nation: the President of Indonesia and the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs. Yes, Eddy Baskoro, son of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, will officially become the husband of Siti Ruby Alya Rajasa, daughter of Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa. The wedding rituals themselves began on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, and will conclude on Saturday, November 26, 2011.

This marriage has become interesting not because of the individuals getting married, but rather because the parents of this happy couple have become the subject of widespread discussion, especially their fathers.

The reason is, speculation has arisen: Is there a connection between their children's marriage and political coalition?

We know that SBY is the incumbent President from the Democratic Party until 2014. After that, he cannot serve again as he has already completed two terms.

Meanwhile, Hatta Rajasa is a figure who plays a crucial role in SBY's administration. The chairman of the National Mandate Party has been mandated to hold ministerial positions several times. Hatta is also known as SBY's loyal campaign manager.

Therefore, it's no surprise that many rumors suggest this marriage between the children of two state officials also serves to strengthen the bond between two political parties that have been in a coalition from the outset. The objective is predictable: to win the 2014 general election.

So, is there a role for love here?  Did Eddy marry Siti truly based on love?

If so, then congratulations are certainly due to this couple. How happy they must be.

But if there turns out to be a  “hidden agenda”  behind this marriage, then it is truly regrettable. A lavish wedding, costing billions of rupiah, even utilizing the presidential palace, would be meaningless. In fact, it could be predicted that such a sacred bond would not last long.

We are not gossiping or  delving into a celebrity's life like an infotainment show. However, let's try to look at another side of this event.

This grand event has, in fact, had a significant impact on the community, especially residents living around Cipanas Palace, where the wedding ceremony took place. Many citizens enthusiastically came to witness this “rare event.” Several schools were even closed. Meanwhile, the road passing through the event's center had to be intermittently opened and closed.

Even more interesting was the parade of luxury cars along the route to Cipanas Palace. Indeed, not just anyone could enter Ring 1, where the wedding ceremony was held. Whose cars were those? Naturally, they belonged to the guests, almost all of whom were ministers, members of parliament, governors, and other state officials.

Given these facts, if this marriage can indeed be called a “political marriage”  with the intentions and objectives mentioned above, then will their aspirations be achieved? Will the people be influenced and ultimately follow the will of these leaders? Can they emerge as winners in the upcoming election?

We'll just have to wait for the answer.(Satrio)
