Definition of Job Fairs

Kartuneters, have you ever heard of a job fair? Yes, everyone is familiar with this term. This major event serves as a platform for companies to recruit potential employees or employees to enter the workforce according to specified qualifications. A job fair also provides a venue for job hunters to find their dream jobs. It's important to remember that, so far, job fairs have been more popular among non-disabled individuals. What exactly are the differences between these two job fair events? Of these two job fairs, which one becomes the focus for us as people with disabilities?

General Job Fairs

It's not without reason that most events like these are sought after by non-disabled individuals; several factors make job fairs popular, including:

  1. A wide variety of job vacancies are presented, both at booths and on stage.
  2. Job hunters can directly ask questions to the HRD (Human Resources Department) of each company.
  3. They can immediately take action by submitting application letters and CVs, or they can survey job opportunities beforehand.
  4. Options for submitting CVs and application letters include via email, form links in the form of QR codes that can be scanned with a camera, and conventional submission.
  5. And many more.

Disability Job Fairs

Now, what about job fairs specifically for people with disabilities? Are they as crowded as general job fairs? Is the enthusiasm the same? These are the questions for disabled job hunters, like myself. Without intending to compare or criticize, I am expressing what generally happens at disability job fair events. There are several points that became my reflection when attending a job fair specifically for people with disabilities, including:

  1. Companies providing job vacancies specifically for people with disabilities can be counted on one hand, or there might be only one company.
  2. The enthusiasm of disabled job hunters is limited to only a handful of people.
  3. Lack of socialization for required job vacancies that match qualifications, and those qualifications aligning with the conditions and abilities of people with disabilities.
  4. Less than optimal participation from people with disabilities themselves.
  5. Limited access to job vacancy information that matches interests.
  6. The job market for people with disabilities is often confined to formal education, health, and arts sectors, especially music and pantomime.
  7. Persistent negative stigma.

Conclusion

Actually, there are many more points that could be made, but due to time constraints, God willing, we will discuss job fairs another time. For suggestions and feedback, please contact us via:
