Jakarta, Kartunet – The objections from the disability community regarding PT Angkasapura I's plan to remove audio announcements at Juanda Airport Surabaya have not deterred the state-owned enterprise from implementing it starting June 1. In fact, Tommy Soetomo, as the President Director of PT Angkasapura I, challenged persons with disabilities to take legal action if necessary (30-05).

According to information from the Twitter account @ProtesPublik, which held a discussion with the President Director of PT Angkasapura (AP) I, they will proceed with the decision as planned to enhance passenger comfort. According to PT Angkasapura I, there have been many complaints from passengers who find the audio announcements, made almost every minute in three to four languages, noisy and disruptive to conversations.

Furthermore, @ProtesPublik, conveying information via Twitter @Kartunet, stated that the decision was made based on a survey conducted by PT Angkasapura I among passengers at Juanda International Airport. Previously, on May 21, through its general manager, PT Angkasapura I announced that the audio announcement system at Juanda Airport would be replaced with running text displays placed in strategic locations.

The disability community is concerned about this, as it could limit access to flight departure information, especially for the visually impaired. The advocacy process is still ongoing to obtain further information from the company, which operates airports in the central and eastern regions of Indonesia. Additionally, through the East Java Disability Advocacy Network (JADI-Jatim), efforts are underway to issue a legal warning (somasi).
